More than packaging material

Nifty uses for the bio-degradable cardboard and paperboard :

1. For storing fragile items : an empty carton with its inner partitions can be converted into an ideal vessel for fragile items.

2. For storing electrical cords : don't dispose of used toilet paper rolls, instead convert them into receptacles for storing wires and electrical cords. Neatly fold these and place them inside the rolls. You can even label the rolss for quick identification.

3. To protect surfaces : simply place an unfolded or flattened cardboard on a work surface to protect it.

4. To facilitate upholstery work : DIY enthusiasts who wish to take on upholstery projects involving accent seating should follow this tip to get decorative upholstery accents with uniform spacing. a) take a long strip of paperboard and mark the required spacing along its edge. Ensure that the border of the paperboard is straight to begin with. b) press the tips of the decorative tacks into the marked strip and place it on the identified stretch of fabric. c) tap the tacks in 2/3 of the way. d) gently tug at the strip to tear the edge free before firmly tapping the decorative tacks in.

5. To make a drip pan : one way of ensuring the oil leaks from cars do not tarnish your flooring is by placing a drip pan under the leak. To fashion your own drip pan place several sheets of cut-to-size cardboard in a metal cookie tray or in another large and shallow container. Sprinkle sand, sawdust or even cat litter on top of he cardboard to facilitate better absorption. Simply replace the carboard when needed.

6. As bespoke place mats : if you are planning a theme party and are having difficulty sourcing placemats to fit the theme, try this tip. Using a sharp blade, cut out the required number of cardboard pieces to the dimension of 12 by 18 inches. Then simply cover the cardboard pieces with wrapping paper, adhesive paper, paint or other decorations of your choice.
